Frequently Asked Questions - How was Walking Talking Texts originally created?

Walking Talking Texts evolved out of my classroom practice with ESL Indigenous learners. It was trialled and refined over a period of three years before it was originally written up as Walkin' Talkin' Stories in the early 80s. In the mid 90s, I was asked to update the document as it was one that many schools continued to use. The rewrite, with more detail, reflecting researched ESL theory more explicitly, was entitled Walking Talking Texts. The use of the word 'Texts' in this title reflected the use by teachers of factual and informational texts in addition to the narrative, as the stimulus text.
